Rhode Island Soaring Club (RISC) , a chartered club of the
Academy of Model Aeronautics, AMA# 1478. Originally founded in early 70's as " Gliders, Sailplanes & Scale Modelers.
RISC encourages all aspects of soaring with the majority of the members flying thermal or slope or both, & welcomes new members and can provide help to get a novice flying quickly.
We are fortunate in obtaining permission to use turf farm fields. Insurance has been provided to the farmers with the provision that anyone using the fields must be a member of both RISC and the AMA and adhere to the AMA safety & RISC field rules.

RISC  supports the AMA Intro Pilot Program which enables a beginner to try flying with a designated club member before applying for the memberships.
Contact the Club Secretary for info about this program.

Our members fly a variety of sailplanes, gliders and electric powered aircraft from turf farms located off of route 2, near Heaton Orchard Rd. in Richmond, R.I. Someone is usually flying on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Some members also fly gliders off the slopes at Ft. Adams in Newport & Ft. Wetherill in Jamestown, RI

Please join us at one of our monthly, informal meetings to learn more or introduce yourself at the field, if you are in the area when we are in the air.
